AFCON starts without Bafana Bafana

The last time Bafana Bafana made their presence felt in the tournament was in 1996, when they won it.

The 23rd edition of the African Cup Of Nation (AFCON) starts tomorrow,  January 9 in Cameroon.

However, South Africa is not part of the countries that will be doing battle in this prestigious continental tournament. This was after Bafana Bafana lost to Ghana through a controversial penalty where SAFA was forced to take the matter up with FIFA, without  success.

The last time Bafana Bafana made their presence felt in the tournament was in 1996, when they won it. Then, Bafana Bafana were crowned the AFCON champions after beating Tunisia 2-0 at the packed FNB Stadium. After that, things have went downhill.

This Sunday, the hosting nation, Cameroon hosts Burkina Faso in the opening fixture at Olembe Stadium, Kick off time is at 18:00.
