AKA stole Composure from me – Mpumalanga artist
A Mpumalanga artist and producer has accused rapper AKA of using his beat without consent.
Gordon Nkosi, aka Gordio G-Cover, claims that the instrumental used on AKA’s diss track to rapper Cassper Nyovest, Composure, was his brainchild and that he was never acknowledged in the process.
According to Nkosi, it all started a few months ago when he met a man who identified himself as John and claimed to have relations with AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, and other renowned artists, Mpumalanga News reported.
“I met this man a couple of months back and through our conversations, I was convinced that he was reputable. We exchanged contacts and I gave him my CD to listen to the songs and we would set up meetings thereafter,” Nkosi said.
Nkosi claims he caught wind of AKA’s song via social media sometime after having passed his CD to John.

“I noticed that everyone was going on about Composure,” Nksoi said. “I immediately listened to the song and was stunned to hear a beat exactly the same as mine.”
“I contacted John on the spot, and he said we would meet and work something out, which is something I was OK with, because no producer was credited on the song.”
But John reportedly went AWOL and switched off his phone soon after.
AKA’s camp has since distanced themselves from the claims and say they don’t know and have never heard of Gordio G-Cover before.
“We don’t know what Gordon (Nkosi) is talking about, however that doesn’t mean we will let the matter slide. We will look into it; perhaps have a listen to his original link to the beat, and the one used on the song,” Pheko Kgengoe from AKA’s public relations team said.
Although Nkosi admits to having blundered by not registering the beat, he insists all he wants is recognition for his work.
“I don’t want to sue or claim money. I just want to be acknowledged as the producer of the beat. That’s my work, I have the files and everything, and it should be known that I have created it.”
AKA released the song, whose lyrics are aimed at rival Cassper Nyovest, in September to much fanfare. The song spawned a scathing rebuttal from Nyovest in the form of Dust 2 Dust.
