“We congratulate our latest multi-millionaire and wish him well in his plans for the future. Ithuba would also like to reiterate that we are mandated, as per our license requirement, to maintain the anonymity of all our winners,” said Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza.
Ithuba encourages players to check their tickets and claim their winnings. Tickets are valid for 365 days from the draw date.
Michelle van Trotsenburg, the head of marketing and corporate affairs, told the Alberton Record that all winnings are allocated to the National Lottery distribution fund.
“If the winnings are not claimed within 365 days, the unclaimed winnings are used for good causes and distributed by the National Lotteries Commission. All winners over R50 000 receive free financial and trauma counselling to assist them in managing their winnings. All winnings are tax-free,” she explained.
Van Trotsenburg said every day, South Africans 18 and older have a chance to win, and their contributions help others change their circumstances.
“It has already changed the lives of many others—street vendors, miners, boilermakers, and retirees are just a few examples. As the winner of the R126m PowerBall jackpot said, ‘I will continue to play, as it is not about the money but the proceeds that are donated to charity from the money spent on buying tickets.”
