An alleged member of a gang responsible for breaking into homes and robbing the occupants was killed in Inanda, KZN, this morning in what is believed to be an act of vigilantism.

The Witness reports that Prem Balram, the spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa, says they were contacted by a pedestrian just before 07:00 who spotted the body on the side of the road.

“The caller believed that the man was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.”

Balram says reaction officers were dispatched to Dumisani Makhaye Drive in Inanda, where they met SAPS officials on the scene.

“It was established that the deceased and other members of his gang broke into several homes and robbed the occupants this morning. The community rallied together and pursued the gang.”

Balram adds that the man was allegedly apprehended and beaten to death by the community.
