The accused made a brief appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrates' Court facing charges of incitement to commit public violence.
On Tuesday, November 30 the Hawks’ Organised Crime Investigation team attached to Crimes against the State (CATS) unit arrested the 47-year-old Joe Bernington Mabaso for incitement to violence related to the July riots.
Following a lengthy investigation the team executed a search warrant at a house along Cork Bush Street in Bram Fischer near Dobsonville in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The search resulted in the recovery of electronic devices that included cell phones, a licensed firearm and clothing of the Dobsonville Community Policing Forum that were taken for further analysis.
The accused has since made a brief appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court facing charges of incitement to commit public violence.
Further charges haven’t been ruled out as consultations continue with the Prosecutor.
The matter has been postponed to January 31, 2022 pending finalisation of the investigation, whilst Mabaso was released on R 1 000 bail.
