Alleged poachers nabbed with giraffe meat at KZN nature reserve

It is believed that giraffe meat was going to be sold by alleged poachers to people under the guise of beef.

The efforts of two quick-thinking Bisley residents, who happened upon a vehicle carrying giraffe legs in KZN’s Bisley Nature Reserve, led to the arrest of alleged poachers on Wednesday.

Peter West, the chairperson of the Friends of Bisley Nature Reserve, said he received a call at around 11:00 from residents around Bisley, who had spotted a vehicle near the entrance of the reserve with parts of a giraffe carcass in their vehicle.

“They managed to stop the vehicle and take the driver’s keys,” said West.
