Alleged robber killed in Sabie

A robber was allegedly shot dead by police in the Mpumalanga town, one was arrested, and two are on the run.

Several robbers stormed into a store in Sabie, Mpumalanga, on Saturday, holding victims in the shop at gunpoint.

About four suspects robbed the business owner of Cash and Carry of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing from the scene.

Members of the Sabie Police Station were alerted and quickly responded. The suspects were spotted by the police.

The police chased the suspects, who fired at them. The police returned fire whereafter one suspect was fatally shot. Another was shot in the upper leg. The wounded suspect was taken to hospital for medical treatment, under police guard.

A 9mm pistol and about 11 rounds of ammunition were found on the deceased.

The other suspects managed to evade arrest and are still at large.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate will investigate the shooting incident.

The police are on the track of the two other suspects and members of the public are urged to assist with any information that may lead to their arrest by calling the Crime Stop number at 086 001 0111.
