Armed robbery at Pretoria’s Grove Mall
Four armed men robbed a store at the Grove Mall in Pretoria earlier today.
No shots were fired. Nel added: “We are still calculating the damages of the robbery.”
Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said the four men were loading stolen items onto a brown Mazda double cab bakkie in DionWired’s loading bay when a security guard noticed the suspicious-looking vehicle while patrolling.
The security guard did not notice the four men as he approached the bakkie, but the situation quickly got heated when the guard parked his vehicle in front of the bakkie.
“One of the men jumped out of the bakkie and fired two shots at the security guard. The guard managed to put his vehicle into reverse and speed away. The four unknown men sped away in the Mazda double cab,” said Sepato.
This after, four armed suspects ran away following a robbery at a cellphone shop in Hyde Park Corner shopping centre, in the north of Johannesburg last month.
“The suspects entered the Vodacom shop and pointed firearms at the cashiers. They then stole cellphones,” police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela told The Citizen.
Makhubela said the armed suspects robbed the store of cellphones worth about R1.5 million and added shots were fired into the air as they fled the scene.
No injuries were reported.
