Arrest made in Sodwana Bay missing skipper case

The original person of interest in the case of the missing Sodwana Bay skipper John Matambu, known as Ferdie Visser, has been located in Mozambique.

According to Matambu’s nephew Mike Eilertsen, who is working closely with police, Interpol, local security companies and investigators, he was apprehended in Maputo this evening (Friday) and is in police custody.

The arrest comes after the police had circulated Visser’s photograph and name on Wednesday, alerting the public to be on the lookout.

As yet, no word has been received on the whereabouts of Matambu.

Matambu went missing at sea on March 16 after taking out a client, believed to be Visser, from Sodwana Bay. The last contact with Matambu was at 11:30 when he reached the designated charter point.

The torched remains of the Magnum Too, the boat Matambu and his client was on, was discovered beached near Dobela in Mozambique on Sunday.

The arrest follows another person being taken in for questioning on Wednesday. The person’s identity has not been made public.
