Armed robbers attempted a cash-in-transit heist at shopping complex in Witbank, Mpumalanga, on Monday morning.

Bystanders said three suspects targeted a Coin Security vehicle in front of Saveways Spar at about 9.20am, Witbank News reported.

A shot was reportedly fired.

“I just came out of the Spar and got in the car when I heard the gunshot,” Anneke Basson, a bystander, said.

“A man with a huge gun came running towards me and hid behind my car,” Basson continued.

Basson said she saw the armed suspect getting into a white Bantam bakkie.
