Biker dies in George while Mpumalanga biker airlifted to hospital
Two bikers were involved in two separate accidents yesterday. In George in the Western Cape, a family is mourning the loss of a loved one while in Mpumalanga a biker has been airlifted from the scene to a medical facility in Gauteng.
Accidents involving motorcyclists occurred in George and near Lydenburg yesterday. One motorcyclist passed away while another was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
In George, a motorcycle accident happened at about 02:30 yesterday Courtenay Street.
“Preliminary investigations are that the motorcycle had collided with a car from behind,” says Captain Malcolm Pojie, Southern Cape police spokesperson.
The man was declared dead on the scene. He was later identified as Ruan Wolmarans from George.
Pojie said the 24-year-old driver of the car was arrested for drunken driving. He was later released on a warning to appear in court on a later date.
In Mpumalanga, the Long Tom Pass outside Lydenburg was closed for several hours following an accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.
According to the Lowvelder, a Mazda CX-5 were involved in an accident at around 12:30 yesterday.
The driver of the Mazda CX-5 had been travelling in Sabie’s direction and the biker in Lydenburg’s.
The biker, believed to be in his 30s, had to be airlifted to a hospital in Gauteng for urgent care.
The vehicle driver did not sustain any injuries.
