Bloemfontein CBD robbers due back in court
A shop owner, accused of purchasing stolen cellphones, is one of eleven people arrested in connection with business robberies.
Eleven people accused of a series of business robberies in Bloemfontein are due to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today.
Bloemfontein Courant reports that the accused appeared in court last Monday in connection with a series of robberies committed in the city’s business district.
According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane, 10 of the accused face robbery charges, while the other, a shop owner, has been charged with purchasing stolen cellphones.
The shop owner also allegedly tried to bribe police officers during his arrest.
Mojalefa says the case was postponed to today for ‘further proceedings in terms of Section 50(6) of the Criminal Procedure Act [51 of 1977], which governs bail and detention matters’.
SAPS investigations are ongoing.
