Investigations are underway to establish the identities of four men whose bodies were found on a gravel road in Ferrobank.
Police are investigating the deaths of four men whose bodies were discovered in Ferrobank on Saturday (September 28), days after four people were reported missing in the area, reports Witbank News.
“The team is working around the clock to uncover every little detail of what happened,” said Vosman SAPS spokesperson Colonel Vusi Mahlangu.
“We are out seeking possible evidence so that we can give a proper account of what happened, which could have led to the deceased losing their lives.”
Officers find bodies near gravel road
Police said officers responded to information received and proceeded to an open field next to a gravel road in Ferrobank, where the bodies of four men were found.
Paramedics confirmed that all four victims were deceased.
Preliminary observations indicated that the bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The remains were transported to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Families assist with identification
Mahlangu said investigations to establish the identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their deaths are ongoing.
Family members have since been called to assist with the identification process. While most of the victims have been identified, one family was unable to positively identify their relative on the scene because of the condition of the remains.
Police confirmed that the body will later be cleared at the pathology centre and the family has been given another opportunity to make an identification.
Crime bears similarity to 2025 case
The discovery has revived memories of a case that made headlines in Ferrobank last year, when three decomposed bodies were found in bushes near an old mine not far from the latest crime scene.
The discovery was also made after police were tracking a missing person.
At the time, residents expressed fears that more bodies could be hidden in the surrounding vegetation and called for a broader search of the area.
