Police are investigating the murder of an unknown man, found with a bullet wound, in Deelkraal near Carletonville.

Residents of the former mining town went to investigate after spotting a body lying next to the dam. They then alerted police of their gruesome discovery.

It is alleged that the man was digging up copper cables before his murder. He had a gunshot wound to the left shoulder.

Police suspect the man was an illegal miner.
