Body parts of missing Eastern Cape woman found
Community members who saw a dog carrying a human hand alerted the police, suspecting it belonged to a woman who went missing in the area.
A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday following the discovery of the body of a 32-year-old woman who was reported missing last week Saturday.
According to the office of the Eastern Cape provincial commissioner, it is alleged that community members in Zandukwana in Libode in the Eastern Cape saw a dog carrying a human hand, which they suspected to be that of the missing woman.
Police were alerted, and the woman’s boyfriend was questioned.
Further investigations led police to a toilet at a homestead where body parts were found. It was then established that the body was that of the missing woman.
The boyfriend was arrested and detained on a charge of murder. He is expected to appear in court soon.
The investigation is ongoing.
OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Phumzile Cetyane says police will ensure that people who do not value human lives, especially those of women and children, will be charged and brought to justice.
“We will see to it that bail is opposed and justice takes its course,” says Cetyane.
