Boksburg: Thieves break into police station, steal network cables

A series of break-ins at the Boksburg Detectives' Branch has seen all sorts, from cables to a door, being stolen.

Recently the Boksburg SAPS detective branch team became the victims of cable thieves that targeted their offices and stripped the building of network cables.

Even though the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson hasn’t yet responded to Boksburg Advertiser’s requests for details on the incident, well-placed sources believe the thugs gained entry through the ceiling of the building’s front porch.

The incident is believed to have happened sometime between the evening of April 20 and the morning of April 21.

Concerned officers pointed out that the break-in and cable theft at the facility not only disrupted the supply of internet connectivity, which places the team at a disadvantage, but it poses serious risks to the other crucial resources and documents which form part of the detectives’ operations.

Officers pointed out that this was not an isolated case, saying thieves had also broken into the building and stolen cables a few days ago. The same thing reportedly happened about a year ago when some criminals forced their way into the building and removed one of the doors from the door frame.

Criminals reportedly stole the door from the police parade room.

The team has previously raised complaints about the precarious facility and ‘perpetual’ break-ins.

Officers, who are fed-up with the state of affairs, said they have for far too long been raising the issues of being exposed to an unsafe work environment, with a building that is gradually falling apart, while also lacking a security system to safeguard its contents.
