Boksburg woman collapsed, died in front of shops

An unidentified woman allegedly collapsed and died at the El Ridge Shopping Centre in Boksburg, on the East Rand, on Friday morning.

Boksburg North police communication officer Lieutenant Juanita Coetzer said the deceased was allegedly waiting for the shop, where she works, to open when she collapsed and died at about 9am, Boksburg Advertiser reported.

An anonymous resident expressed her disgust at the manner in which the body of the deceased was left lying on a pavement for a long time, saying human body deserves some kind of dignity and respect.

“The medical personnel were called but she was declared dead on scene,” said Coetzer.

The cause to her collapse remains unknown.

Last month, a Grade 8 learner passed away in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, after collapsing during a soccer match.

The pupil from Lowveld High School, reportedly collapsed on the pitch at another school and was rushed to Mopani Pharmacy, as it was the closest medical facility, Lowvelder reported.

Provincial spokesperson for department of education Jasper Zwane and the school’s principal, Jane Wandrag, both confirmed the incident. However, they would not disclose the learner’s identity.

According to an eyewitness who was on the scene, it was the soccer coaches supervising the game who took the boy to Mopani Pharmacy. “He had no pulse, and it was decided to call paramedics to the scene,” the eyewitness said.

ER24 and Netcare 911 paramedics were among those who responded and tried to revive the pupil, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the pharmacy.
