Boy dies in fire in central Durban
A teenager tragically lost his life and four people were rushed to hospital following a building fire in a coastal town.
A 13-year-old boy died as a result of a fire that broke out in one of the buildings on Broad Street in central Durban just after noon today.
Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics went to the scene after receiving alerts of buildings on fire in the area.
“We had to treat multiple casualties for smoke inhalation on site,” says ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
“The ALS team rushed to the sixth floor of one of the buildings where we found an unresponsive 13-year-old boy, who was later declared dead on the scene. Four more people were rushed to the hospital,” he adds.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the SAPS and the Durban Fire Department.
