Bulls win race for former Stormer

Following a difficult 2022-23 Vodacom URC campaign, the Vodacom Bulls have ramped up their coaching staff overhaul by recruiting a former Springbok.

The Vodacom Bulls have won the battle to bring a former Stormers stalwart back in a massive boost to Jake White’s coaching staff.

Andries Bekker, who retired in 2018 and has been coaching in Japan, has according to Sunday newspaper Rapport, agreed to join the Vodacom Bulls as a forwards coach.

Bekker, currently coaching a school team in Mossel Bay, will join the Vodacom Bulls from 1 July, after also being linked with a role as the Lions’ new forwards coach.

This comes as the Vodacom Bulls bid farewell to Nollis Marais and Pine Pienaar, while Russell Winter has been heavily linked with a move to Japan.

Meanwhile, Duane Vermeulen has reportedly rejected a return to Loftus Versfeld as a defence and forwards coach.

The veteran No 8, who left Ulster after two years in Belfast, reportedly wants to stay in the Western Cape, where his two sons are schooled, and is in discussions with the Stormers.
