Bystanders save holidaymaker’s life at KZN beach

The quick-thinking by bystanders to initiate CPR has been hailed by emergency services personnel along the Dolphin Coast.

A 52-year-old holidaymaker was taken to hospital after he lost consciousness after hitting his head on a rock while swimming at Tiffany Beach on the Dolphin Coast.

The incident occurred yesterday and Dylan Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue at the time said the Cape Town man was pulled from the water by bystanders before the arrival of emergency services.

“The bystanders performed CPR for 10 minutes until paramedics arrived. It was established that the man had a pulse and was still breathing. He was stabilised and taken to hospital,” explained Meyrick.

He thanked the bystanders, who he said definitely saved the man’s life by initiating early CPR.
