Cash-in-transit heist culminates in deadly shoot-out in KZN
A bloody gun battle between police and armed robbers led to the death of four suspects and the injuring of two law enforcement officers.
Police rushed out to the scene of a cash-in-transit heist yesterday afternoon in Hospital Hill, between Estcourt Hospital and eMabhalononi.
Speaking to Estcourt News, sources at the scene said that police, including K9 Unit officers, chased 15 suspects after the heist.
This led to a shoot-out in which four of the suspects were killed.
Two law enforcement officers were also shot and injured.
Police said they are searching for the remaining robbers, who are on the run.
Community members gathered in the area to see what was going on, some with the hope of finding cash strewn in the area.
The gutted and blazing cash-in-transit van in the middle of the road was a haunting testimony of the harrowing ordeal that had unfolded, leading to a bloody gun battle.
