Cheetah attacked elderly woman before schoolboy

A 70-year-old woman had been viciously mauled by a cheetah a day before 10-year-old Aden Fry was also attacked by one at the Kwa Cheetah Breeding Project near Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, last week.

Aden made news last week, but the elderly woman’s attack has also just been confirmed by a family relative, who expressed horror at statements that reported the boy’s attack as a once-off freak occurrence, Ladysmith Gazette reported.

The relative, who asked not to be named, said the victim was inside the enclosure with the animals, other tourists and a guide when she was attacked. The 70-year-old allegedly suffered severe bites to the upper body and a broken hip. She was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Aden, the schoolboy from Pietermaritzburg, was attacked the following day, on Thursday, when he was on school outing. A cheetah reportedly managed to force itself through a game fence and locked on to the child’s backpack, pulling him towards the fence.
Kwa Cheetah staff managed to loosen the animal’s “grip of death” by inserting their fingers into its nose, shocking the animal into releasing the boy. In a press release, the child was said to have been injured on his left shoulder and was immediately treated for the injuries. He is today back at school.
