City of Ekurhuleni reassures residents after poisoned water rumours
The City of Ekurhuleni has dismissed claims of poisoned water in several townships, confirming supplies meet compulsory national standards.
The City of Ekurhuleni has reassured residents that the potable water supplied throughout the municipality remains clean, safe and fully compliant with South African National Standard 241.
According to Kempton Express, the City, in a media statement, dismissed recent claims suggesting that water sources in Tsakani, Duduza, Langaville and KwaThema had been poisoned, describing the allegations as false.
The statement confirmed there is no contamination in any reservoirs or water tankers servicing these areas.
Interruptions unrelated to water quality
City officials clarified that current water supply interruptions affecting parts of Tsakani and Langaville are unrelated to water quality.
The disruptions are instead attributed to low water levels at Rand Water’s Brakpan reservoirs.
Security and testing measures in place
The municipality further confirmed that all reservoirs and tanker sites are secured around the clock, with 24-hour security in place, and that no security breaches or incidents have been reported.
To ensure the safety of drinking water, the City conducts rigorous water quality testing on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, with results consistently confirming the water is safe for consumption.
Public urged to rely on official updates
The City urged residents to refrain from sharing unverified information, warning that false reports can cause unnecessary panic within communities.
Residents are encouraged to rely on official communication channels for accurate and up-to-date information.
Members of the public who have concerns or require further clarity are advised to contact the City of Ekurhuleni call centre on 0860 543 000.
The City of Ekurhuleni reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the reliable supply of safe drinking water across the municipality.
