Congolese nationals arrested for ‘illegal’ abortion flyers
Two Congolese nationals were arrested on Monday for putting up flyers advertising services for, among other things, illegal abortions in Witbank, Mpumalanga.
Police were reportedly patrolling when they noticed two Congolese nationals sticking illegal advertisements on the street signs, Witbank News reported.
The men were apprehended and the police managed to seize fake notes, a Sedan and fraudulent certificates, which they had in their possession.
“These adverts are polluting the city centre, and as soon as the advert is removed, then another is replaced almost immediately,” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson from Witbank SAPS.
The suspects were held at Witbank Police station and were expected to appear in Witbank Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, Johannesburg Metro Police issued a R10 000 fine to a Ugandan national found displaying illegal abortion posters in the Johannesburg CBD.
The man reportedly advertised pills that could be used for illegal abortions.
