Couple critically injured in Gauteng robbery

A husband and wife were shot this morning, allegedly by robbers who broke into the complex where they live.

Two residents of a residential complex were critically injured this morning during an armed robbery.

Three people broke into the complex – situated in Amorosa in Roodepoort, Johannesburg –  and shot and injured two people.

Elmien Parker from Absolut Security explains that the security company received a message for help at around 03:28 on one of their community groups, stating that shots were fired.

“Control dispatched our response team and phoned ER24 for medical assistance,” she says.

It was determined that a husband and wife were shot.

Honeydew police were informed and on the scene within a few minutes, says Parker.

While complex residents believe the perpetrators scaled the walls of the neighbouring complex, cutting the palisades to crawl underneath, this is speculation at this stage.

The husband was shot in the leg and his wife in her lower back. They were stabilised on the scene and taken to a nearby medical facility.

The robbers got away before they could be arrested.

While comment was requested from the police, no response was received at the time of publishing.
