Courageous Phoenix man killed by fleeing suspect
The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, has left the community reeling in anger, with residents stating that the young man was a hero.
Months before he was expected to marry his girlfriend, a 25-year-old Phoenix man was fatally stabbed while trying to subdue an armed suspect, who had attempted to rob a home in Quintam Place, Westham.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, has left the community reeling in anger, with residents stating that the young man was a hero.
The deceased was identified by Reaction Unit South Africa as Salesh Premlall.
He was declared dead at the scene after sustaining a single penetrating wound to his chest. On the day of the crime, the suspect attempted to rob Premlall’s neighbour’s home.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was established that Premlall and his brother were at their residence when they heard shots being fired from their neighbour’s residence. They noticed two suspects fleeing from the property and decided to pursue to robbers. Premlall managed to catch up with one of the suspects and while attempting to subdue him, was stabbed in the chest with either a screwdriver or knife. He collapsed to the ground and died at the scene,” a RUSA report stated.
Premlall was employed at a local call centre.
A murder probe is currently underway.
