Covid-19 field hospital set for Tshwane

Businesses are encouraged to prioritise the health and safety of all employees as the country prepares to move to level three of the lockdown.

Plans to establish a field hospital for the treatment of Covid-19 patients is under way in Tshwane.

On a compliance visit at the BMW and Nissan manufacturing plants in Rosslyn, Tshwane Gauteng Premier David Makhura said that the department was in the process of finalising the details for the field hospital.

“When we have a field hospital here [in Rosslyn] it will not just be for the employees but will also assist the community in Soshanguve when we get to the peak which is still coming,” said the premier.

Makhura added that the department is working with BMW, Nissan and the German and Japanese embassies to establish the facility.

He encourages businesses to prioritise the health and safety of all employees as the country prepares to move to level three of the lockdown.

“We should never be put into a position where we have to choose between the economy and saving lives because an economy is about people. Public health is about people,” said Makhura.

As of 19 May, South Africa has had 17 200 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 7 960 recoveries and 312 deaths.
