Covid-19: Gauteng cases climb to 139 435
More than 2 000 new cases recorded in the province since Monday.

The department of health said on Wednesday, out of 56 397 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 40 467 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms, reported and were de-isolated.
The department said 5 021 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.
Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:
- Johannesburg: 60 424 cases and 35 970 recoveries
- Ekurhuleni: 31 067 cases and 20 264 recoveries
- Tshwane: 25 642 cases and 11 529 recoveries
- Sedibeng: 8 339 cases and 1 700 recoveries
- West Rand: 9 148 cases and 4 416 recoveries

- Rand West City: 2 296 cases;
- Merafong City: 1 990 cases;
- And 91 unallocated cases.
On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
