Covid-19: Over 3 600 new cases of coronavirus confirmed
There were 162 Covid-19-related deaths reported on 16 August.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that there were 3 692 new Covid-19 cases identified in South Africa, on 16 August, bringing the total number of cases to 587 345.
Mkhize announced that there were 162 new Covid-19-related deaths. Seventy of these deaths were recorded in the Eastern Cape, 27 were recorded in Gauteng, 21 from KwaZulu-Natal, six from the Free State, 18 from the North West and 20 from the Western Cape. This brings the total number of deaths to 11 839.
To date, over 3.4 million tests have been conducted, with 22 609 new tests conducted since the last report.
Gauteng continues to be the province with the highest number of cases, accounting for 34 per cent of total cases. KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape account for 17.9 and 17.4 per cent respectively.
The Eastern Cape has 14.3 per cent of confirmed cases and Free State has 5.4 per cent of cases. Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape each account for less than five per cent of cases.
