Covid-19: The number of confirmed cases in Mpumalanga as of May 21
South Africa has a total of 19 137 confirmed Covid-19 cases, according to an announcement by the minister of health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, on Thursday, May 21. A total of 90 of those cases have been recorded in Mpumalanga.

According to the Mpumalanga Department of Health, the first Covid-19 case recorded in Mpumalanga was on March 11.
The department announced that as of May 21, Mpumalanga had a total of 90 positive cases reported. However, minister of health, Dr Zwile Mkhize, last night reported 95 cases for Mpumalanga; therefore, the province is verifying case number 90, 91 and 95 as misallocated to the province from other provinces, namely Gauteng, Limpopo and Cape Town.
The department and the National Institute of Communicable Deceases are verifying case number 92 and 93. According to the department, of the 90 positive Covid-19 cases in Mpumalanga, 48 (53 per cent) are female and 42 (47 per cent) are male, as broken down in the table below:

The department said most positive cases range between the ages of 20 to 64; only two females are aged between 70 and 74 and one male above 80, who have all three since recovered. There was only one neonate case that recovered on May 19.
According to the department, Mpumalanga recoveries are standing on 58, which means that of the 90 total cases, the province only has 32 active cases currently.
The department said it has screened a total of 2 701 965 community members, which amounts to 60 per cent of the provincial population. Mpumalanga province has not recorded any Covid-19-related deaths to date.
