Dead baby found at dumping site near Komatipoort

The gender of a baby found at a rubbish dump could not be determined due to the state of the body.

A newborn’s body was discovered at a dumping site in Mjejane near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga at 16:20 yesterday.

According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the body was spotted by a woman who was passing by. She then alerted police.

Komatipoort police and emergency services went to the scene, where the baby was declared dead.

“Due to the condition of the body, police could not confirm the child’s gender,” says Mdhluli.

Police are investigating, he adds.

It’s not known if the baby was alive or dead when it was dumped.

Police urge anyone with information about the child’s mother to contact Komatipoort standby investigating officer Sergeant Vusimuzi Thobela on 072 196 8225 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information can also be sent via the My SAPS app.
