Dead body found on Durban beach front

The body of a man was found floating in the water at a Durban beach front on Wednesday night, paramedics said.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, paramedics arrived at the Durban North beach front at about 9.22pm and found the man’s body floating out at sea. The man is believed to have drowned.

“[National Sea Rescue Institute] staff pulled the man back to the beach, [and] after medics examined him, it was found that he had tragically died,” Botha said.

Botha added details surrounding how the man ended up in the water were still speculative and would remain a subject for police investigation.

In another incident, a man died after drowning at uShaka Beach in Durban in January.

According to paramedics, lifeguards pulled the man from the surf before trying to resuscitate him.

When paramedics arrived, they placed the man, believed to be in his 30s, on a ventilator and continued with resuscitation, but they were unable to revive him. He was later certified dead at the scene.

Earlier that month, a man died after drowning at a beach in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape.

The man was reportedly swimming in the rough sea when he ran into difficulty. Paramedics were able to pull him from the water and began resuscitating him, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the scene.
