Discoloured water concerns Estcourt residents in KZN

The water quality has been worrying to homeowners and business people.

A Drakensview resident who did not want to be named described the water as being ‘murky and yellow,’ Estcourt and Midlands News reports.

“Other people have noticed this as well and I am concerned that it may be a health risk if we drink the water,” the resident commented.

Uthukela District Municipality Communications Manager Jabulani Mkhonza responded by explaining that about two weeks ago there were two burst pipes supplying water to the Drakensview area, causing the reservoir to become almost empty.

“When these pipes were fixed and water pumped up, it was contaminated with soil particles that changed the colour of the water. It normally happens that when there is a burst pipe, soil particles will find a way into the water channel. As we speak, water quality has become clearer. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused,” added Mr Mkhonza.
