Dog poisoned and dumped in bin bag

A crossbreed female dog has allegedly been poisoned and dumped in a bin bag in Acaciavale in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.

It is alleged a resident, Avish Raghunundhun, noticed movement in the bag on Sunday while he was taking a stroll down the street and stopped out of curiosity to see what was inside the bag,Ladysmith Gazette reported.

Raghunundhun was shocked to see a helpless and desperately sick dog in the bin bag. He carried the animal home and gave it water to drink. He then contacted the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL).

Annamarie Koen from the AACL was heartbroken to see the dog in such a sad state.

“The dog was taken to the kennels on the N11, where AACL workers tried their best to save her life. Sadly, it passed away,” said Koen.

In a separate incident, a three-month-old dog died after it was allegedly poisoned by suspected house robbers during an attempted house robbery in Roodepoort, on the West Rand, in July.

Piet Combrinck said: “I realised my dog was quiet. I called to her and she did not come. When I went looking for her I found her dead behind the caravan, foaming at the mouth.”

“The fact that they tried to break open the garage door also makes me suspect they were after the motorcycles,” added Combrinck.
