Driver cut free following horror crash on N1 in Pretoria

Emergency workers used the Jaws of Life to free the man in what was described to be a "horrific" accident.

A man had to be cut from his vehicle after an accident on the N1 Southbound near the Rigel Avenue offramp in Pretoria on Saturday.

“On Saturday afternoon Emer-G-Med Paramedics responded to the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on the N1 south near the Rigel Avenue off-ramp,” said Emer-G-med Spokesperson, Kyle Van Reenen.

Van Reenen said that on arrival on the scene, a luxury SUV was found to have collided at high speed with the rear of a stationary articulated vehicle before overturning and coming to a rest on its roof.

“The driver, a male aged in his thirties, was found severely entrapped in the wreckage with serious injuries.”

Emergency workers worked fervently to stabilize him while he was cut free using the Jaws of Life.

Van Reenen said that once he was freed, the man was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for the definitive care that he required.
