Duane Vermeulen to return to Bulls

The World Cup winner is one of 10 players leaving Ulster at the end of the season.

Springbok No 8 Duane Vermeulen is reportedly set to rejoin the Vodacom Bulls with a view to playing in the Currie Cup and preparing for the Rugby World Cup.

According to a report on Netwerk24, Vermeulen and the Blue Bulls Company are in talks over a potential return for the former Bulls skipper to Loftus Versfeld.

“It makes sense to give Duane an interim place here. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable. Whether this is only in the short term is uncertain. It all depends on Duane’s future decision after the World Cup,” an insider is quoted by Netwerk24.

“If it depends on Jake [White], he’ll want to keep Duane at Loftus longer.”

It is believed that the Bulls may also use Vermeulen – who is expected to retire after the World Cup in four months’ time – as a player consultant, adding an extra layer of significance to a reunion with the Bulls.

Vermeulen played for the Bulls between 2019 and 2021, where he helped them win back-to-back Currie Cup titles.
