Murdered Lebogang Mafa was known for her active role as a 'defender of the revolution' with the Tshwane branch.
Akasia police in Pretoria have arrested a 35-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a 43-year-old Tshwane EFF member Lebogang Mafa.
The arrest follows a brutal shooting that occurred at Soshanguve Ext 7 in northern Pretoria on Sunday, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.
Local police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza reported that authorities responded to a distress call at the scene, where community members had gathered. A man, identifying himself as a relative of the deceased, approached the officers and guided them to the residence where Mafa’s lifeless body was discovered. Paramedics confirmed Mafa had already passed away.
Several cartridges were found at the scene, but the motive behind the killing remains unclear as investigations are ongoing.
The suspect has been taken into custody and appeared in court on Monday. Police are appealing to anyone with additional information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Mafa, known for her active role as a ‘defender of the revolution’ with the EFF, was a significant figure in her community. EFF Tshwane’s regional chairperson Obakeng Ramabodu condemned Mafa’s untimely death, describing her as a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope in Ward 90. He noted that her commitment to the EFF and her dedication to justice and equality were well-known.
