A Kwa-Thema family is seeking answers following the discovery of the bodies of Anna and McDonald ‘Nono’ Sima at their residence on Thursday (September 17), reports African Reporter.

A neighbour discovered the couple after going to check an outside room after noticing a strange smell in the yard at about 13:00.

“The neighbour checked and saw my dad’s hand on the floor and blood in the room,” explained the couple’s daughter, Viyelwa Nkosi.

“She screamed for help, and that’s how their bodies were initially found.”

Nkosi said there is speculation that her parents ingested a poisonous substance, noting that neighbours last saw her father the previous afternoon and heard nothing untoward.

She explained that the loss of her parents is shocking, saying her parents used to stay in Selcourt but had moved back to Kwa-Thema, south-west of Springs.

Nkosi is the eldest of three siblings and described the experience of losing her parents as truly painful.

“It is really painful, and I do not know where we go from here because a lot of things are not adding up,” she said.

“But I guess we have to push ourselves and make sure they are buried. I think what can make things easier is getting all the answers we may need.”

Nkosi urged the police to investigate and establish exactly what happened, hoping it would bring closure.

Anna’s sister, Sibongile Masemula, described the couple as jolly and loving, adding that they had been married for 28 years.

“I last spoke to them on Tuesday when they sent me a WhatsApp message requesting to speak to me,” said Masemula.

“Due to being busy, I could not reply. Today I am told they are no more and that breaks me beyond words.

“Their marriage has been inspirational to all of us as a family. We hope that postmortem results will give us the exact cause of death.”

Ward Clr Thulani Simelane expressed his condolences to the Sima family.

Simelane urged the community to refrain from speculation and judgment, reminding them that autopsy results will be provided to the family to determine the cause of death.

“We should wait; perhaps the family will share the results,” he said.

“Should anyone have information on the matter, they should visit the police and give a statement. Until then, let us support the family and provide them with the necessary comfort.”

An enquiry has been sent to the SAPS, but no response has been received as of publication.
