Elderly couple found murdered in Springs

Suspects who allegedly stabbed a couple to death are on the run.

An elderly couple, aged 68 and 69 respectively, was stabbed to death during a robbery on Becker Road in Casseldale, Springs, yesterday morning.

They were found dead in their living room and had multiple stab wounds.

Their family discovered the pensioners in a pool of blood.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Themba Tshabalala, the couple’s daughter spoke to her parents on the phone at about 08:33, but later on, she could not get hold of them.

“After a while, she and her husband went to the house to check on the pensioners,” says Tshabalala.

“On arrival, her husband entered the house and found the two lifeless bodies in the dining room.”

Tshabalala adds that preliminary investigations show that the injuries are stab wounds from an unknown object.

It is unknown what was taken from the house, but the mounted safe was discovered open.

Tshabalala says the suspects are still on the run.

Anybody with information that could help the investigation is urged to inform the police or contact Sergeant Tshabalala on 011 365 5700.
