Elderly man dies after vehicle plunges into Knysna Lagoon
A man in his early 70s has died after his bakkie plunged into the Knysna Lagoon, with police opening an inquest into the incident.
A man believed to be in his early 70s has died after his vehicle plunged into the Knysna Lagoon on Monday.
Knysna-Plett Herald reports that, according to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, Knysna police have opened an inquest docket following the incident, which occurred at about 14:00 on the N2 at the entrance to Knysna.
Vehicle left roadway
Reports indicate that emergency services were dispatched to the scene after a Ford Ranger left the roadway and entered the lagoon.
Body recovered
The body of the male driver was later recovered from the water. He was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
An autopsy was conducted today to determine the exact cause of death. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
