Elderly man killed during Pietermaritzburg house robbery

A pensioner was stabbed multiple times as he tried to fight off two intruders who broke into his home.

A Bombay Heights, KZN, great grandfather was killed during the early hours of Saturday morning during a housebreaking.

Rajendra Chetty (72) was stabbed multiple times as he tried to fight off two intruders who broke into his home.

Chetty’s grandson Davelan Saminathan says a neighbour noticed something was amiss when he saw his grandfather’s door open early in the morning.

He says they immediately rushed to the house.

“Our neighbour called and alerted us. As we rushed out, we saw two men running from my grandfather’s house. Our only concern was to get to my grandfather.

“We found him bleeding from his head and there was a lot of blood all over. He was breathing but passed on shortly afterwards,” says Saminathan.

SAPS is investigating.
