Elderly woman found murdered in West Rand home

A case of murder is being investigated by police after the body of a 70-year-old woman was discovered in her home in Mohlakeng, near Randfontein, on the West Rand.

Randfontein police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst said the woman’s body was discovered on Wednesday evening by tenants who stay on the same premises. She was found tied up on her bed, Randfontein Herald reported.

“The circumstances regarding the murder are unclear and will be investigated by detectives. Shocked family members had to be consoled on the scene. The body was removed to the government mortuary for the necessary postmortem and collection of forensic evidence,” Ernst said.

This after another 70-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Van Dyk Park, Boksburgafter she was stabbed to death in what is believed to have been a robbery last month. Gauteng police said the woman was stabbed twice in the chest and was discovered by her neighbour. Police arrived at the scene and found the woman’s body. Her car was also missing, but nothing in the house where she lived alone was taken.

In February, an elderly man was found dead outside his home in the Moorton area of Chatsworth, Durban after what is believed to have been a house robbery. Neighbours claimed the 80-year-old man was murdered by a house robbery suspect. He was also found with his belt missing, sparking suspicions that he may have been strangled to death with it.
