Employee shot and killed by ‘boss’

A company staff member believed to be the manager shot and killed a security guard after mistaking him for a hijacker.

The Isando security guard was killed on Tuesday morning at about 5.30am at an Isando company, according to Kempton Park police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Express reported.

Mandla Hlahla, 52, a Tembisa resident, was shot several times in the upper and lower body by a company employee believed to be a manager.

“This morning Kempton police arrested a 57-year-old suspect believed to be the manager involved in the shooting,” Mtshali said.

“It is alleged the suspect arrived at the company and was approached by the security officer. He apparently suspected he was going to be hijacked by the guard.”

He subsequently fired several shots at Hlahla, fatally wounding him. It was later established the deceased was on duty as a security guard.

The suspect will appear in Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court soon on a charge of murder.
