Eskom announces increased load-shedding

Stage 1 and 3 power cuts will be in effect for the next two days.

Eskom says due to a delay in returning a generating unit to service at one of its power stations, stage 1 load-shedding will be implemented between 05:00 and 16:00.

The latest load-shedding update states that this day-time power cuts are thus far only scheduled for tomorrow and Thursday.

Daily stage 3 load-shedding will continue to be implemented between 16:00 and midnight.

Eskom adds that an update will be provided once ‘significant changes occur’.

The power utility says 14 991MW of generating capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns, while an additional 4 264MW is offline due to planned maintenance.

“Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla power stations was returned to service. In the same period, a generation unit each at Majuba and Tutuka power stations was taken out of service due to breakdowns.

“The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Tutuka Power Station is contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return generating units to service over the next few days,” the statement concludes.
