Eskom announces planned load-shedding for next few days

Varied stages of rolling power cuts will be implemented until Sunday.

Eskom says stages 2, 4 and 6 load-shedding will be implemented at varied times from this afternoon until Sunday.

The power utility said in a statement that stage 6 load-shedding will still be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 tomorrow, when it will be lowered to stage 4 until 05:00 on Saturday.

Thereafter, Eskom believes, stage 2 load-shedding will be in effect between 05:00 and 16:00 on Saturday.

Stage 4 load-shedding is forecast for 16:00 on Saturday until 05:00 on Sunday, and thereafter power cuts will be suspended between 05:00 and 16:00.

Another round of stage 4 load-shedding will once again be implemented at 16:00 on Sunday and is currently scheduled to continue until midnight that day.

Eskom does, however, state that an update will be provided once significant changes are noted in the system.

Breakdowns currently amount to a generating capacity loss of 17 863MW, while a further 2 437MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance.

“Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Kendal and Tutuka power stations were returned to service. In the same period, a generation unit each at Duvha and Arnot power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns.

“The further delays in returning to service a generating unit at Arnot, Hendrina, Lethabo, Majuba, Matimba, Matla, Tutuka and two generating units at Camden power stations continue to add to the current capacity constraints,” the statement reads, and mentions that the power utility hopes ‘to return as many of these generating units to service over the next few days’.
