Eskom escalates load-shedding to stage 5
The power utility says a higher than expected demand necessitated the escalation.

Rolling power cuts are currently in stage 5 after a higher than expected demand saw Eskom abandon their plans to lower it to stage 3 from 05:00.
Eskom earlier this morning said that an update on their planned load-shedding schedule would be announced later this afternoon.
The power utility last night tweeted that at 18:38, the demand was at 27 215MW while their availability was at 25 920MW. This meant that at the time 2 735MW had to be shed.
The demand then rapidly increased, although an exact figure has not been given, resulting in the need to shed in excess of 5 000MW – thus the implementation of stage 5 load-shedding.
