Eskom to implement stage 3 load-shedding to evening peak periods
The current capacity constraints are a result of delays in returning generating units at two power stations.
Eskom has announced that load-shedding will be implemented at stage 3 over the evening peak periods.
Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until midnight today, and load-shedding will be suspended from midnight until 16:00 tomorrow.
This pattern will continue daily throughout the week until further notice. Eskom will publish another update if any significant changes occur.
The power utility says breakdowns currently amount to 16 524MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 4 376MW.
“Over the last 24 hours, a generating unit each at Hendrina, Kriel, and Medupi power stations was returned to service,” reads the statement.
“In the same period, a generation unit each at Arnot and Medupi power stations was taken out of service due to breakdowns.
“The delays in returning to service a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Hendrina, and Tutuka power stations are contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return these generating units to service over the next few days.”
