Eskom urges public to use electricity sparingly

The threat of load-shedding at short notice remains due to the continued strain on the power grid.

Eskom has urged South Africans to use electricity sparingly saying the generation system remains constrained after breakdowns and delays in returning generating units back to service.

On Friday, the power utility said that eight generating units are planned to return to service by today.

In a press release earlier today, Eskom says that two units at Kendal Power Station as well as a unit at Hendrina, Kusile and Tutuka power stations were returned to service over the weekend.

The power utility is however experiencing delays in returning units to service at Kendal and Komati as well as two units at Tutuka.

Over the past 24 hours, breakdowns occurred at two Arnot units, as well as a unit each at Camden and Lethabo power stations.

Stage 2 load-shedding, over peak hours from 16:00 until midnight, might be announced at short notice.

Currently, 4 872MW of capacity is unavailable due to maintenance while 13 983MW is out on breakdowns.
