Eskom’s De Ruyter survives attempt on his life

He was allegedly rushed to his doctor who confirmed his symptoms as cyanide poisoning.

Eskom’s former CEO, Andre de Ruyter, allegedly survived an attempt on his life in December when his coffee was laced with poison, a day before news of his resignation leaked to the public.

Chris Yelland of EE Business Intelligence broke the story, saying the assassination attempt took place on December 13, a day after he handed in his resignation but before it became public knowledge.

According to Yelland, De Ruyter fell ill after drinking a cup of coffee in his office at Megawatt Park in Johannesburg. He was rushed to a doctor where his condition was diagnosed as cyanide poisoning.

De Ruyter confirmed to EE Business Intelligence that he opened a case with the SAPS on January 5.
