Fake traffic cops active on road in Brakpan

Five men, of which two were wearing traffic officer uniforms, kidnapped a man and hijacked the truck he was driving.

Criminals masquerading as traffic officers made off with a cargo of candles and other goods after hijacking the driver of a 6t truck along Heidelberg Road (R23) last Thursday evening.

According to Brakpan police, the 43-year-old driver was travelling towards Brakpan at around 21:00 when he noticed a vehicle behind him with flashing headlights.

The driver ignored the vehicle, which then overtook him and drove off.

As the driver approached the R23/R554 intersection near Carnival City, he was stopped by a group of five men who appeared to be traffic officers.

He pulled over and was approached by two men wearing traffic officer uniforms.

They requested his driver’s licence, which he handed over.

He was then taken out of the truck and forced into a Volkswagen Golf while one of the men got into the truck and drove off.

The driver, who was also robbed of his personal belongings, was released unharmed near the Boksburg Prison.

A search for the group and truck continues.
